Tank Type Water Heaters
-
Standard Vent water heaters are the most common. They have a metal flue pipe that ties into your chimney system and come in a range of sizes in capacity and BTU ratings.
- Power Vent water heaters have a blower motor to help remove the exhaust gases out of the building usually through a wall. These usually have a PVC pipe as its exhaust piping.
- Direct Vent water heaters are normaly installed close to an outside wall and seem to have an oversized exhaust pipe going out the wall. The reason for this oversized pipe is there is another pipe inside the larger pipe. The inside pipe is for the exhaust gases, and the larger pipe is for the heater to bring in fresh combustion air. These are primarily used where there is a concern that the inside air is not sufficient enough.
- Electric water heaters are pretty much straight forward. Just the voltage and wattage as well as capacity is needed to be known for these heaters.
